Calder and Hebble: from Dewsbury to Beeston Bridge

This is the route that I took on Sunday September 29th 2019 when walking the Calder and Hebble from Dewsbury to Beeston Bridge. It is 8.1K long.

I've reached the village of Horbury Bridge. There's a marina on my side of the Canal.

The towpath is under water. No way am I going through that!

This is under the bridge at Horbury Bridge. I avoid the problem by going up the ramp to the road and down the other side.

When I get back to the village of Horbury Bridge I go North and use a road bridge that crosses over the River Calder. It's following fast!

A dog walker that I met on the towpath has advised me that I can use this footpath that goes alongside the River Calder and rejoin the Canal further down. He says that this path is raised above the Canal. This photo has the start of the footpath.

Although the footpath goes alongside the River, soon the River overflows onto the footpath.

I return to Horbury Bridge to catch the bus back to my hotel in Huddersfield and opposite the bus stop there's a Chinese takeway. If this rain continues, the boat could come in handy!
